OVERALL PERSONALITY: Ember Brookes is a very friendly woman but extremely flirty with men she finds attractive. However, she is afraid of commitment because she hates getting close to people and having them leave her especially mortal people. While she is friendly, it is extremely hard for her to trust and she doesn't do so very often. Magus is her only friend and the only person she truly trusts in this world. She is a very extreme realist and believes what you see is what you get, which could be her undoing in a world were people aren't as they seem. Love isn't something she believes in when it comes to members of the opposite sex. She believes she loves Magus as a sister and her brother, well, as a brother - she believes in love as a sign of caring and in relation to people she sees as family. However, does not believe that true, unselfish love exists in a sexual relationship. She is extremely sarcastic and handles insults well because she is extremely self confidant and can laugh off most anything. It is hard to anger her and she isn't normally quick to 'jump the gun' but if you manage to get her angry, it isn't a very pretty sight.
HISTORY: Harlow Ember Brookes was born on a bright day as the second child to Cricket and Margo Brookes in a small town in Russia. Her elder brother Harper was her best friend and her greatest idol was Olver Brookes, her grandfather who was a werewolf and passed the genes onto her and her brother, skipping her father's generation. When she was six years old, Harlow's mother sent her and her brother to stay with her grandfather in a small town outside of the Russian Border. It was that same night that soldiers came into her home inside Russia and killed both of her parents. Harlow learned of this two months after it happened when they returned to their home.
It was then that her grandfather began to take care of her brother, who was six years older than she was, and her. He packed their bags and moved them to the United States in a town named Lake Tronto in Montana. Olver Brookes taught them every thing he knew in the time span of five years. When Harlow was 12, Harper 18, their grand father passed away to cancer. Using his savings, the two moved to Los Angeles where Harper became her legal guardian and taught her to read and write after she got kicked out of the only local school that allowed girls. It was in Los Angeles that her drawing skills began to manifest, where Harper took her to an artist who helped her hone her skills.
They began selling her paintings as Harper began work in a paper mill to pay their bills. Eventually Harper began to become angry and frustrated, taking his frustrations out on his sister. One morning when Harlow was 20, Harper 26, she awoke to a note on their dining room table that told her 'not to miss him and he'd be back soon'. All of his belongings were gone from his room. He left December 12, 1946. She waited for four years before finally catching wind of him. He wrote to her, a small letter that said he thought of her and loved her but he couldn't come home. Every four years since that day, he had written her a letter.
On June 25, 1958 Harlow left Los Angeles for good. It was on that day that she decided to search for her brother. She didn't know how but no matter where she went, his letters would always reach her. It was this fact that allowed her to know he was still alive and that he was watching her, where ever he was.
In 1976, Harlow enrolled herself in art school obtaining a degree in Art. Later that same year, she was attacked by a male werewolf who then told her he had been watching her. Hoping it was her brother, she had hugged him and told him she missed him before he turned into his human form and she realized it was someone entirely different. His name was Richard Ricardo, a werewolf who belonged to a small pack that was slowly dying out. Richard became Harlow's first crush and they had been together for four years before Richard offered her a place within his pack. It was on that same day that she received a letter from her brother, telling her not to trust Richard.
Two months later, after some serious investigation, she found out that Richard had a wife and two children back at home - all three completely human and she took off, upset.
For years, Harlow roamed the world traveling to and fro searching for her brother, evading men who wanted serious commitments, running from people she stole from when she ran out of money, learning and selling her art under the alias 'Wolrah Rebme'.
The year 1998, Harlow was running the streets from a man that she pissed off when she was counting cards at a casino when she ran into an empty park. She took a seat on the bench and began eating a sandwhich that was stuffed in her book bag when a small black furry animal landed next to her. Harlow, used to seeing little furry creatures after all of her nights spent traveling, didn't freak out too much. It was when the young animal reached out for her sandwich that she realized what it wanted. When she fed the ferret, the ferret immediately took a liking to her and started following her home. Between the next few years, she would realize that the ferret would come and go for food and to be petted but would leave after a few hours.
It wasn't until the ferret had been hanging around for about three years that she realized the ferret was actually a shape shifter. The shape shifter introduced herself as Magus, the name Harlow had given her in her animal form. Magus began traveling with Harlow, calling her Em and learning all she could from her. They began a deep friendship. It wasn't until a few months ago that they were sitting in a cafe in D.C. where Magus was reading a newspaper that the most recent letter from Harper came. He stated that he was in New York and was ready to see her.
Magus and Em took the next plane to New York, expecting to find Harper easily but realized after four months of searching that the city was a lot more then it looked. Together, they bought an apartment toward the heart of the city above a small pub and continued their search for Harper.
