PERSONAL STYLE: She rarely wears makeup and usually wears a simple t-shirt or tank top and a pair of dark jeans or pants with suspenders
SPECIES APPEARANCE: She takes the form of a Serval. Human-wise, does happening to be androgynous count? Because for the most part, it's difficult to distinguish Idoya's sex and gender. She was born with androgynous features and though her mannerisms are very feminine, she can also be very vulgar and unladylike. She has no strong or distinguishable features of a stereotypical woman so her appearance continually wavers from being a feminine boy and from a butch girl. Her voice doesn't help either since it's incredibly raspy and sounds like a young boy's voice that's always on the brick of cracking or like someone who has smoked a lot for her age. Plus, she's attracted to both boys and girls. "Idoya" is also a common name for both boys and girls but she likes being referred to as "Lupe" by close friends

SECRETS: Neither she nor her brother are here in the U.S. legally. That, and she only has recently experienced what it’s like being a Werecat, so she’s trying pretty hard to act natural about the whole thing.
GOALS: Keeping her brother alive in this twisted world so they could find a better life for the both of them.

MOTHER: Rosa Maresol, deceased
SIBLINGS: Dario Maresol, younger brother, alive

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Idoya Maresol is, initially, the definition of mellowness. She's friendly and social and tries to find the best in life. However, she's had a history of acting slow or gloomy, due to her undiagnosed depression that she's been suffering for many years but if you were to meet her you'd hardly ever notice because she always has a smile on her face, or at least in public.
Even with her overall calm personality, there are times where she can have her "off" days. One day she could be calm and unimpressionable and the next act completely rowdy, aggressive, "playfully" pushy, and even straight up loud. Usually this is due to her depression spiking up and her trying to cover up her moody behavior. The main reason she does this is because she starts to feel guilty for being moody in the first place. She compares her life to her younger brother's and feels that she doesn't have the right to feel sad for no damn reason. She hates to show weakness in front of others and doesn't like to complain much, so she pretends nothing is wrong and tends to act more aggressive/rowdy/"wild" toward other people hoping to distract them from her true gloomy feelings, especially now more than ever since she's still getting used to being a Werecat.
Even though she looks like it, Idoya is no slacker. In fact, she's one of the most conscientious and hardworking people you'll ever meet. She started to take care of her brother when she was very young and knows about discipline and the responsibility she needs to uphold. In this way she can even act motherly (or, well, fatherly if the case calls for it) towards her brother and her friends, being caring, protective and kind. Though she's incredibly diligent in her work, that doesn't mean that she doesn't let her playful nature seep in from time to time. It's not that she's unable to see the line of when she has to be professional and when she can have fun - it's more that she ignores it. She can be dead serious when she wants to be, especially if it's concerning her brother's well-being, but she's a kid at heart and she'll never let that side of her go. All in all, she puts others first and herself second 99% of the time, especially when it comes to her brother.

HISTORY Idoya was born in Mexico with her vocal cords distorted, which made her voice raspier than usual when she got older. She's therefore unable to talk for long periods of time nor yell very much, otherwise her throat starts to hurt. However, she's incredibly irresponsible with this piece of knowledge and talks nonstop whenever she's with friends and always drinks hard liquor that burns her throat. She justifies all of this with a shrug and saying, "At least I don't smoke." (Though people aren't sure if she's serious or not, since her voice sounds like it belongs to a chain-smoker.)
Idoya had a small family with her mother, father and uncle (her father's brother) living under the same roof. The Maresol family was a happy one, but they were dirt-poor with barely enough money to feed each other. So when Idoya turned two, her uncle left for U.S. to obtain the ‘American Dream’ of becoming rich and famous so he can send money back to his home.
When Idoya was four, her mother died while giving birth to her brother. They were able to save the baby and though Idoya fell into a deep sadness after her mother died, she still loved her brother dearly. However their father was heartbroken and became bitter, utterly resenting his children - especially Idoya's little brother - and blamed them both for their mother's death. He became abusive and would regularly beat them, Idoya usually receiving most of the damage when she'd try and protect her brother. A couple of years later, their father became addicted to a number of different drugs and even started to make some in their home. Thankfully, Idoya was careful around him and her immune system was able to fight off the repercussions that came from living in a household that made drugs. Unfortunately her brother wasn't so lucky. He developed a slower immune system, suffered from migraines, constantly threw up, got easily nauseated and grew up weaker and more fragile then the other boys his age. It was so bad that every time he got some sort of cold, it suddenly became a life-or-death situation. It was only when their father passed away that her brother actually started to improve.
By then Idoya was eighteen years old and was able to take custody of her brother (who was then fourteen). A year passed by until Idoya found something interesting in their attic. She had been cleaning up and looking through some old boxes when she happened upon a number of letters from a man by the name of Agustín Maresol, who, from it's address on the letter, said he was from the States. A place called "Las Vegas" to be exact. Turns out, this was the long lost uncle who had left for the U.S. so many years ago. Through the letters, she found out that he had made it there safely and had found a job at an upscale restaurant. He was unable to send back money for a long time and it was implied that there was a fight between him and her father, judging how hostile the letters began to grow when the topic of financial issues would be brought up. The last letters explained that he had made contact with a wealthy man that had offered him a job, but the letters abruptly stopped after that, Idoya unable to find any more.
She tried to write letters back to the address to see if Agustín would respond to her, but she never got a reply back. She then had a mission: go to America and find him. Her friends were going on similar missions where they would find old relatives in America and start a better life there, so why couldn't her and her brother do the same? Their neighborhood was riddled with crime activity and it was just getting worse over the years anyways. So, wanting to escape the danger along with their sour memories of their home, they settled to move away from Mexico and go to the U.S., finally reaching Nevada through... not so legal systems.
Before they moved, Idoya's brother took the liberty of learning and teaching himself on how to read, write and speak in English until he was able to speak fluently within the language, eventually teaching Idoya herself how to speak it as well. She's able to get around and speak in English just fine, but tends to slip into Spanglish from time to time and revert to speaking in Spanish when she's stressed or angry.
They were determined to track down their long lost uncle and start their life from scratch when they came... but that was before they realized how shady Las Vegas could get. They decided to settle in first and were able to find a man by the name of Byron Zacapa who lived in the Downtown Residences and offered them a place to stay in his condo. Grateful for his generosity and wanting to be anything but a freeloader, Idoya took it upon herself to pay for her and her brother’s share of the rent, despite her brother’s protests at the time. Currently Idoya works in the Fremont East District at a nice little restaurant in the afternoon and at a late-night club in the evening.
If you haven’t already picked up on it, Idoya and Dario were both human before they came to Nevada. If anything, Idoya became personally acquainted with the supernatural world only recently. Her brother was always more of the superstitious type while Idoya herself regarded stories about ghosts, vampires and werecreatures with a grain of salt. That was until last year, when her brother caught their roommate shift in front of his eyes. Turned out, they had gone and bunked in with a Werecat this whole time. Their first instinct was to GET THE F@#$ OUT OF THERE and get away from Byron as far as possible, but after he assured them that he wasn’t going to hurt them and if anything would protect them from the other creatures, he slowly began to regain their trust. Well, Dario’s trust at least. Idoya was still incredibly shaky about the whole thing, becoming even more so when she found out Dario actually wanted to be turned into a Werecat. To be fair, he tried to break the news softly and sat her down for it but it didn’t change the shitstorm she gave him and Byron afterwards, thinking Byron had somehow brainwashed him into thinking this was a good idea, or at least faulted him for influencing the thought.
The reasoning her brother gave was that he was tired of being so prone to illness and being so fragile, and he knew that if he became a werecreature his immunity would improve. Plus, he had always been into mythology and fantasy stories about vampires and werecreatures that it was basically a dream come true. Idoya was adamant about the idea until he became incredibly ill once again and practically had a meltdown about it. So, Idoya finally gave in and gave permission for Byron to turn him but with one condition: that she was turned as well, so they could go through the transformation together. Only until recently did Byron say okay and actually agreed to infect them, helping them now more than ever with their newfound abilities. Idoya and her brother have only experienced one full moon so far and though she knows deep down she can trust Byron and that this was what her brother always wanted, she still frets about whether or not this was the right decision.
