OVERALL PERSONALITY: A very bright and sociable girl at heart with an oddly shy tendency and a need to be noticed, adored, loved or at least liked. She seems to wither away without attention and even negative attention is good enough for her on a "bad" day. A quirky individual; the only thing keeping her from being a "geek" is the fact that she goes through a lot of trouble to hide that she is so quirky. She can't stand anyone thing she's not "in the loop" or "popular" and thus will claim that she likes ( mostly ) what they like to avoid this sort of fiasco. Books? She loves them! Music? If it's good she'll listen to it. Dancing? Of course. Poetry? Yes, she does tend to write a lot of this; and sometimes speaks in poems ( but only in places where she can do so anonymously ).
At the same time she's ridiculously proud of her skills with computers and doesn't care how geeky people think she is when it comes to video games and technology. She grew up on the stuff; why should she abandon it? Ironically, as much as she loves technology, it's the classics that she adores, not the new-age wave of electronics. You're more likely to find her with an N64 than a Wii or an old windows 98 complete with box monitor than a Windows 8 with flat screen ( although she won't abandon a good computer if it's a damn good computer ).
She has serious insecurities, however, one of these being a fear of abandonment. Ever since her adoptive mother died and she learned that she was adopted she's had this issue. She took the loss and sudden realization that she really was alone in the world rather hard and never quite bounced back from it. She's grown attached to things and had to be left behind or leave them behind and learned through this that she really doesn't like the feeling of breaking ties with things and so avoids forming ties. This may make her come off as shallow but that's better than falling in love with a guy ( or girl ) and being unable to remain with them when they decide that it's over.
You'll almost never find her in an outwardly depressed mood but if your sensitive to mental health and a persons emotions and state of mind you'll pick up on such things easily enough. She's an incredibly depressed and lonely person as well as curiously fearful. She adores the rush of strong emotions but fears the repercussions of acting upon most of them ( anger being the most fearful of acting upon ). Typically she won't participate in anything that can and will intoxicate her willingly. Loss of self control is a deep rooted fear and with good measure. She has a serious fear of using her magic against an innocent person or thing by accident or while her judgement is impaired. She'll hit a night club up and chill all night, but she'll never touch the alcohol or anything her companions for the night have cooking.
She addicted to shiny things and bright colors ( and sweets ) so the quickest way to make friends with her is to offer these gifts or possess them yourself. She seems attracted to this as a moth is attracted to light. She's also attracted to the typical darker things that a young person is attracted to and danger seems to play an important role in her actions. The more dangerous ( thus more adrenaline providing ) something is the more likely she'll do it provided it won't impair her judgement. So that vampire? In the dark ally? Talking to her? Yeah, she'll walk right up to him and say hello while everything in her gut screams "run away, run away fast, run away now, run far far away!"

HISTORY: There is no tit for tat in the world. It's just not feasible. Owl learned this the (very) hard way in life by doing everything in just such a way. She was abandoned at birth ( though why is unclear; her files were sealed at the time and then lost in a fire so it was never known to her who her family was or why the abandonment ) and adopted by an older woman whose children had recently died in a car accident. She grew up as a curious child always getting into things and testing a stove four times before believing it was hot because it simply could not be hot this time! Maria had no end of trouble with Owl from climbing ( and subsequently calling out of ) trees to falling off bicycles to hopping fences and skipping school ( "because the teachers a fucking moron" ) but she loved Owl dearly and Owl loved her.
She was ten years old when she went out into the cow pasture that paced the neighborhood behind the houses and explored among the animals that it happened. The old battle-scarred quarter horse stallion that watched the herd to keep humans away and the donkey ( who took care of the wolves ) had become dear friends of hers and she'd even learned to ride the stallion on her own when her courage was finally strong enough. She'd been doing just that when the stallion shied, spooking when nothing ever frightened the old horse. He tossed her and she tumbled gracelessly to the ground, getting dirty enough that Maria would have to know exactly where the child had been.
There was a strangled gargling sound and when she stopped crying over breaking her arm and looked up there was a man hanging in the claws of a... man beast? Man wolf? The donkey wanted nothing to do with the creature but he refused to leave her side. Petrified she sat there, staring at the black furred creature. It ripped out the mans throat, seemingly grinning at her, and she screamed running away from him. Hindsight suggests he let her get away- how was she going to recognize him anyway? And no one believed her! Maria never quite believed the girls story but by the end of the school year she'd moved them across town to the more "Civilized" south-central section of Norman.
Owl isn't quite sure if Maria knew what she was from the start and was protecting her or if it was just an educated guess but when her magic finally manifested Maria took it in stride as if this was "the norm" and it was no big deal. Maria had never been a bible thumper, like many of the older people in Norman Oklahoma could be. she let Owl decide her own faith and accepted it ( which was a non-existant "I don't have time for something that doesn't have time for me" faith.
She suspects Maria knew as early manifestations of... something happened when the child was under extreme duress ( such things as strange breezes in a windowless room or temperature fluctuation around the girl ). When Owl's "gifts", as Maria called them, finally manifested she did her best to assist Owl in understanding and using them properly but the girl was too afraid to learn everything about control that she really needed to. It terrified her how the use of her abilities made her feel ( the euphoria ) and she never wanted to feel it again yet at the same exact time she did! Conflicted by this she settled on doing very, very minor things with her abilities. There was no end in pranks from her in this use of her abilities. Such things as a glass of water suddenly tipping over across a gradebook in class, or ink pens of kids who picked on her drying out and no spares being available, cigarettes flaring nastily in the faces of teens who smoked and blew it at her, etc.
She was twenty when Maria died and a few years out of high school, contemplating the options of college and moving states. She wasn't given a choice when she lost Maria. She inherited everything but the house ( it was a rental ) and the owner wanted to rent it to someone for more money than Maria's contract. Her options were Tennessee where all country singers go or Las Vegas where... anything could happen. To Las Vegas she went; where anything could happen.
