The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old Recent encounters had gotten Urjasz thinking. Already he had found a shifter in the hospital. Another one with connections to the homeless. And not to mention all the random encounters he had over the few months that all served some purpose. Even the human hunters that had crossed his path and continued to walk their dark path had some use to him. It was all about finding the pieces of a jigsaw and putting them into place for the grand picture. Zakhar had come and gone. The money was ready and the permission granted by Ileana. Another long story for another day. Everleigh was back home resting, ready for their trip to New York and Urjasz was out in the town collecting a few supplies for the trip. Originally he was going to take her as well when he went to to see Ileana however he feared that if she were to get into trouble Ileana would not be so kind as to let him leave so abruptly. It made sense for them to go when it was safer for the pair. Urjasz now found himself in the smaller shops of the town as he found that the owners tended to be more helpful than the young teenagers hired for a summer job in the corporate stores. This didn't mean Urjasz hated corporations; he was a product of a corporate family so to speak. It was all just part of a greater picture if he was to be known and liked by the residents.
Smiling whenever he passed an immortal, he would chuckle slightly to himself. Their scent always gave them away. It was like knowing a big secret that only he knew and everyone else in the world was trying to guess what it was. He felt so smug about it and so proud of his ability. A natural wolf ability none the less yet he always found it incredibly usual. Packing a few bags into his car, he locked it up once more and moved onto the next store. He never did quite understand why people would carry all the shopping around at once when they regularly passed their cars parked along the road side. Another perk of small town life; parking wasn't some big concrete block that charged a fortune to park there. Passing a pretty young girl he smiled as he got the scent of a cat. For a town in fear there was a lot of immortals here in the grand scheme of things. Less than five per cent he figured yet enough to encounter often enough. Hell he figured there was probably more gay humans here than immortals. Not to mention that they would be more welcome than the immortals. All afternoon he had been playing the game of guessing what each immortal did and if they were to be of any use to him. Even the humans got the old eye up. A good recruit could turn into the fiercest warrior.
Deciding to check out the small gun shop at the end of the road, he pushed the door open to hear the little ring from above and he smiled at the gun store owner. He was a thin man with long black hair and various heavy rock tattoos across his arms however he was overly friendly. A gun store without a red neck behind the counter; a fresh take on things certainly. Walking around slowly he eyed up all the guns on the walls and even ran his finger across the side of some. ”Is there anything in particular you're after?” the owner asked, moving around the counter to his side. ”Perhaps something in the semi-automatic variety” Urjasz replied, eyeing up a rifle to his side. He had plenty back home but it was always good to keep up to date with the new models. ”Just so you know, I have to see a licence to sell a semi-automatic weapon. State government are coming down hard on us gun stores. Got to be careful who we sell to” the owner continued, picking up the rifle Urjasz was eyeing up. ”I run private security. Defence contracts and all that. I've got all the correct licences” Urjasz stated, taking a small card from a wallet from inside his coat pocket before handing it to the owner as they traded gun for card. Urjasz held the gun with a military style and checked the scope on it while the owner did all the proper checks.
Handing back the card, the owner smiled and agreed he had the right licence. Urjasz knew he did. He had every licence he could think of and he didn't take a single test or exam for them. It was always a perk to know a vampire family. Still he was trained by the military and he trained himself every day so it was not a wasted gift. ”You have good taste. That's the semi-automatic version of the DPMS MWC MOE WARRIOR Carbine. A beautiful rifle if I might say so myself. Know your gun stuff then?” Urjasz nodded and checked the different features on it. ”Good then you'll understand what I'm saying. The DPMS MOE Warrior is configured for the no-nonsense operator. Available with either Black or Dark Earth Magpul MOE furniture, back-up sights, sling adapter and enhanced trigger guard, the carbine is functional and comfortable. The AAC suppressor adapter is suppressor ready, and reduces muzzle signature. All for the low cost of $1,149.00. If you want a decent gun that's an excellent choice. You could defend all kinds of shit with that!” Urjasz chuckled and nodded, deciding ”I'll take it. With the black furniture I think. Do you take credit card?” As the owner nodded and took the gun towards the counter Urjasz heard the door bell do it's little ring and he got hit with a smell he had only smelt once before. An original. ”Afternoon Detective. I'll be with you shortly” the owner called out as Urjasz turned slowly to see who had come into the shop.

Michael decided to go in to town to get his guns cleaned. So he got out of his car and eased the gun cases he had in his trunk on to the concrete ground. As he did that he shut his trunk of his car back down and headed on inside the gun shop. He wanted his guns cleaned and so with that he headed up to the counter and placed the cases on the glass, bullet proof counter top. He admired some of the guns that were on display. Being a cop he had a fascination with weapons. Call it a bit insane but he was a vampire and these could only kill him if there was a wooden bullet in one of them. So he did not scare easily around guns. As he walked around the shop, he got a whiff of a different odor in the shop. It was clearly a dog scent. But Michael made no sense to let it worry him. Unless it was some one that was going to be hostile. He heard the conversation from the other customer and the owner even as he browsed the shop far from ear shot. He had to be on his toes even when he was on vacation. He couldn't help himself.
He was a cop after all. And that made his be a lot more cautious. But he could sense that the customer was just a normal customer. He could tell though that the guy was not human from the smell he got from him. But then again that was nothing new to Hail. He was used to spotting other supernaturals in the small town. He decided not to go and do any thing that was cause a sense. He knew he had to be under the radar. And this guy was not a threat. Which was some thing that made Hail relax as he browsed the shop. He felt like a kid in a candy store honestly. He had his own collection of weaponry at his manor that he took pride in. As well as some nice knifes and swords he had collected over the years. And plus he came here on a regular basis so this was not knew for him to spot another supernatural in a gun shop. He was not going to question the guy's intentions on the weapon he was trying to buy either. Even though he was a cop...

The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old
Urjasz turned back to his gun and stared at it for a moment. He only knew of three originals and he worked for one of them. It paid to know your history with the vampires yet even half the vampires couldn't say for sure about some facts of history. Who died when, if they really died, who did, which war was won, which was lost. It all went on. As for which brother it was in the room with him, he was recalling every bit of history he could. He recognised the man but not for being an original. Urjasz was certain he had seen him living in the town, being out and about. A regular Joe down here. As to where he lived it had never been of interest to him. Though he doubted in town if he was a true original. Thinking of Ileana's history he knew she was close to her brother Vasile so perhaps she had moved closer to him? However he then recalled Vasile being married and he'd never seen this man with a woman. Too few facts and too little seen evidence. However he knew he was right. Taking his card and receipt from the gun owner, he thanked him and left the store, making eye contact with the vampire. He knew that he knew what he was. He had to. Urjasz could not assume otherwise. Walking towards his car he was about to unlock it when he came to a halt, eyeing up the car parked near his.
There a moment of decisions for Urjasz; did he go home and carry on his plan? Or did he stay and get local approval. Ileana ran this state, let alone this side of the country and he already had her permission. Though he knew that stepping on the toes of another original would not end well for him. Sure Ileana may get involved but he would surely get caught in the middle of it. Not a situation that Urjasz wanted to be in. Unlike the human world the leaders of immortal families would openly attack each other and death was a likely outcome. War cost both sides heavily and Urjasz did not want to be the one who started it. So he began to repeat his steps back towards the shop. However instead of going into the gun store, he laid his rifle on the bonnet of the detective's car and folded his arms. He would wait for him. There was certainly a delay before the detective came back out. Urjasz had just finished as he went in so he knew that he would have an unknown length wait. Leaning on the bonnet of the car besides the rifle, he was fully aware that he was getting odd looks from people around him out shopping and walking past. Still his eyes kept on the gun store door, waiting for the bell to ring once more.
Eventually he heard a noise; alas it was not the right noise. A shop keeper had stepped out into his doorway and was ushering Urjasz to move on. Glaring back at him, Urjasz said nothing but kept the glare going. Despite being repeatedly told whose car that was he continued to lean against it with his arms folded. He was not going to raise his rifle to the shop keeper just yet. Knowing his luck the original would come out as he was aiming it at the locals. As the shopkeeper gave up and retreated back inside Urjasz heard the gun store door bell ring. Flicking his stare back to door he made eye contact once more with the original. Flashing a badge inside his wallet to the original, he informed him ”My name is Urjasz Volkova. I am head of the Novosi family, sanctioned by Ileana of New York, Russia and Europe. I am a fully licensed security operative and I am backed by the Gorchakov family as well. This town has been given the green light on a new family territory and I had been led to believe I had checked all the boxes. However I follow the old laws and by those laws it is required of me to notify you of such changes. Due to our species difference, I do not have to follow a command given by you however I will extend a truce for this talk. You are an officer of the law as well which is good. All I require is local law and your own personal rules.”

Michael watched the man leave the shop. As he caught the guy giving him glare, Michael said nothing and went up to the counter to get his guns cleaned. He gave the owner his usual pay and a generous tip. It was quite a long time Michael was inside the gun store. But as he finally came out, he saw the same man leaning against own car. When a fire arm on the top. Michael arched an eye brow as he saw the man flash his I.D. at him. Not a lot of things scared Mihail to much. And especially not men with the higher authority over him. He was terrified of one thing though. And that was magi. Since it was a magi that created him, he was terrified of them. But mostly respected magi as well. Because he knew that they could bring him to his knees. Even to do their bidding if they wanted. But the stranger was not a magi. So therefore he was far from scared. He peeved that the man was leaning on his car. "Would you mind not leaning on my hood? Cars are expensive. And they cost more to their up keeps..." Yea Michael was touchy about his vehicles.
And the guy started speaking. Michael arched an eye brow after the man finished talking."Very interesting facts. Am I suppose to be terrified of you or something?" He asked with a smug expression. And of course since this guy knew his sister then he knew him..."And I guess you know who I am. But to put your questions to ease my names Michael. Michael Sanders..." He said as he introduced himself. "And I would wave your fire arm out and about around humans. They spook easily..." He told him as he unlocked his driver side car. He was in the Thunder Bird tonight. It was the car he picked to use to work in. As he then began to open his car door. He had his head set to leave. He didn't know this guy was wanting more conversational acts... Michael was tired for one. And he really didn't like werewolves. But he wasn't about to make one mad by telling that one face to face. But Michael set his now empty gun case in his car as he shut the door again. He could tell the guy wanted to say something more..."What's your name? Since you seem to be friends with my sister..." Michael couldn't help but be a little protective of his sister. Even after all these years. Guess old habits died very hard...

The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old
Lifting his rifle from the hood of the car, he rose from the car as well and kept the gun lowered at his side with his finger along the side away from the trigger. ”I understand about the cost of upkeep. This town has already cost me a new bodywork for my car since I arrived here. Courtesy of the local kidnappers of course.” Urjasz pointed out his white BMW M3 packed a few spaces along with his spare hand, clearly speaking of the time he had rammed a van off the road to save a woman from being kidnapped. To this day she was still in intensive care at the hospital and Urjasz occasionally popped down to see how she was doing. Despite all his plans for this place, he was glad to know he had done some kind of good whilst he was here. Though he never did find out why she had been kidnapped in the first place, he was just glad that she was alive. It made him feel kind of human to care so much about someone he did not know at all. But the wolf inside had plans for her. Urjasz was a recruiter now and where he saw potential he saw a wolf. Kidnapped woman with tragic story to boot and no revenge having been dealt? The perfect set up for a wolf.
Urjasz watched as the detective smugly acted like he should be frightened of Urjasz and begin the process of leaving. Having learnt that the locals didn't react overly well to be intimidated, Urjasz was far from trying to look scary. Several dead people and one offended wolf pack beta later, he was opting to start conversations with actual words instead of putting a blade into someone's skull. For some reason they responded better to that and he never did quite understand this country for that. Especially when in Russia the species all co-existed happily yet here in the land of fancy pants words they all wanted to stab each other to death with anything they could lay their hands on. Odd people. ”As I said before, I am Urjasz Volkova and no you are not meant to fear me. I'm not a fool. Quite the opposite in fact. In fact I was following the old laws and paying my respects to the most local original. Perhaps you have been outside of the real world too long to remember the old rules?” Urjasz responded, trying not to snap his answer back at Michael. This could only mean he was truly Mihail however Urjasz chose not to bring it up. Some immortals liked to pretend they were in a world different to their own and he wasn't going to take that away from him. At least not without gaining something from it first.
”I wouldn't say me and Ileana are friends. I have worked for her family for a very long time and I only met her for the first time last week. She would think more of me as a subject than a friend. And something tells me that you would think the same of me. No matter. So as the highest ranking person in this town I felt it would be polite to make sure that you were aware of my existence and if there was any rules or laws that I needed to follow that I should at least know about them before I break them. I joke of course. I can't promise I won't kill every now and then but when it comes to honour and loyalty, I'm old school. But then, I'm just a child next to you. A weird feeling indeed.” Turning to smile at a passing woman and her child, Urjasz kept the rifle as far from view as possible so not to frighten the child. The woman smiled back politely but moved on quickly with her child. ”You see, I like it here. I wouldn't change a thing. I don't want to conquer this town. I want to be part of it. This is a good place to spend some time building something greater than what I've already achieved. You can understand that surely?”

Mihail saw Urjaz pick up his weapon off his hood of his car and hid the fire arm the best he could. He then saw that he was polite to the humans that were walking past the two supernaturals. And that made Michael ease a bit as he saw that this man did not mean harm to any one. "As for rule making, I am not the enforcer in this region. So you would have to go to my sister for that. I only keep the peace around here. That's about it. As for the old rules, I still go by them. Having written a few of them myself. But I assume you would have already known that. Considering how old I am and one of the very first vampires. I think I had the right to write a few of them. One in particular is be in fact show no sign of your other 'identity'. Meaning the supernatural side of yourself." He then smirked at Urjaz as he said that he not here as a threat. And that he only killed when he had no other choice. "Pretty much how I live. So as far as I'm concerned, you will fit in just fine in this small community."
Hail did kinda take offense of the way Urjaz had spoken to him about not living in the real world and trying to act as a human and all. Michael had no choice but to act as a human and he hoped that urjaz was not going to rat him out in any way. Because if that were the case, then Hail would have to remove the man from life all together just to keep this place safe and unaware of any supernaturals living here. "Oh yea one thing I failed to mention. This town has had a war between the humans and supernaturals. So if you make a mistake I can't promise you a refuge of safe haven. Because these humans know how to fight off supernaturals. They have proved themselves a long time ago. That is why I try and act human. And I advise you do to the same. That is if no one has told you yet. I live here because it is peaceful.I would not like to be involved in another war. And there are a few magi here too. One works in that cafe over there to your left.."

The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old
With his car only being a few cars away, Urjasz motioned for Michael to follow as he did not want to have to shout his responses across the road given that Michael was all about the secrecy. It struck Urjasz as odd. All he ever knew of vampire originals was their desire to be gods and to run the world. He knew most of it was myths and legends for the newly turned immortals but there was always an element of truth behind every story. Given that he had only met Ileana before Michael, the name given and therefore the name he would use, he had every right to believe the stories. Everything about Ileana screamed power, desire and lust for attention. Playing the quiet shadow game was not her style. As he opened the boot of the car, he opened a case and placed the gun inside the padded case. Closing the case and the boot, he lent on his own car to speak. ”Given the nature of your sister I believe you'd understand why I would check for more local rules. If it was entirely up to Ileana she would have me burning the town to the ground and taking it over. And considering that was my original instructions, as requested by Ileana herself, I think it's fair to say I've done my part to protect the town's immortals already. Everyone here is going around like nothing happened. They have no idea how close they were to being the last town on a very long list of towns that have been completely wiped off the map for good. You even helped me persuade her to settle here instead. Despite her flaws, she does love her family.”
Pausing for a moment as another pedestrian passed, Urjasz continued when he was happy he would not be heard. ”It's this ancient war that put this town on the list in the first place. Ileana was insulted by the notion of the humans ruling over the immortals with fear. I was sent to clean up the mess. But it's not what it seems this place.” Urjasz stopped for a moment, looking around at the street and then the town itself around them. ”Like you say, there is a peace here. It's nice. After many years of war, peace is nice. But there's a cost to that peace. I don't argue with the history. There was a war and there were plenty of deaths on both sides. Every war is like that. The result was six different species hiding in the shadows from just one species. Like cornered animals. Before you panic I don't intend to start a war. I'm just not hiding. And I'll tell you why. It's not just because I won't hide, though a big factor in itself. It's because after several months of living here and making myself known, I have yet to see a single founding family member. Believe me I have looked. With every intention of killing any I find. Like I said though, my plan has changed a fair bit.”
Giving Michael enough time to take in what he had said already he chose not to rush him with information, again waiting for a passing family to pass out of ear shot. ”This town is full of immortals. I've met one in the hospital. One in the park. Several in the woods. There's an entire pack running around the place. Not to mention all the immortals that pass through. Every single one has told me to duck, cover and hide from the humans. I have walked through this town day in, day out with my head held high. I even sat in a police station talking openly to a human about what I am. Granted the end result was not..... helpful. There has been loss of life. All those missing people that disappear in the middle of car crashes and mystery fights? There's a good chance it was me. Yet here I am, opening buying even more weaponry, chatting to one of the original vampires, smiling at the humans as they pass by. Correct me if I'm wrong, but am I the only one who thinks that should not be happening, given the fear status of the humans here?” Raising his hands in a question manner, he left that one to sink in as he took to looking at the town once more. He didn't see a battlefield any more. He saw a home. And no man should have to hide what he was in his own home.

Michael took all that in as he did the other things he was told. But this guy to him did not seem like a threat at all. He was happy that Urjasz knew the town's history and all. And what has gone on the last few years. But that was beside the point. Hail just looked at the man and nodded when Urjasz was finally finished talking. He looked down at the ground. As that last thing was spoken. And that made Michael alarmed now. Could this guy be a threat or not? "You are either a threat. Or not. Which is it?" Michael asked him as he finally looked up at him after trying to be as firm as he could he was a cop after all. He had to keep the peace and he really did not like the fact that this guy was going around and telling humans what he was. But what was done was done. He could only just hope that the human Urjasz told himself about was not a crazy one. Maybe he knew the guy. Because it was taken place in the police department. The very building he worked at.
None the less Michael was not really trusting this guy now as he just remembered him socializing with his baby sister. That was some thing that was odd. Why would he even want to be friends with her? Michael knew her more than he did. And he did not like the fact that his sister was befriending with werewolves. But he could not control his little sister when she was human and a little child. She was a hard one to make listen to him. When ever he was left in charge and their parents were gone Michael had to make sure every thing in the house hold went smoothly. But that is getting off the topic. Michael looked up at the man and looked at him good. He was not lying when he said he was a fighter. Michael could just tell this guy was not some one to piss off. And that was enough to know that he could be bad news. Why Michael had not yet seen him around town until now was a big question going in his head. But that was nothing compared to the question as to why he was hanging around his sister. "My sister and I don't exactly get along.." He admitted to man finally.

The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old
Urjasz continued to lean upon his car as he watched his counterpart think over his own response, giving a lack of emotion and answer to his long winded speech. Never afraid to speak his mind, Urjasz was well known for just telling it as it was. He could be careful about what he said when he wanted to be yet often he'd just say his thoughts and just deal with the consequences. Michael nodded along as he spoke, showing he had some kind of understanding to what the, young compared, wolf was saying. It was strange if he thought about the situation. How often did you go to your local shop, granted it being a gun shop, and end up having a casual chat with one of the three oldest vampires in the world? Though his amusement soon turned to concern and the lack of known weapon soon crossed his mind. He was very well armed despite this yet he felt almost naked without the rifle. He didn't need to pull the trigger for the message to be made. The hidden swords in his sleeves? Hard to make a message without flicking them out. Michael's question made sense though he had not been expecting it. Perhaps he had not been as clear as he'd originally meant to be. It was an easy thing to do. Start talking about one thing and end up discussing why that thing was better than this thing. He didn't know enough pop culture to make a joke in his mind and that saddened him. Until he realised he'd been staring into space whilst Michael waited for an answer.
”No threat to you. No threat to this town” he answered sharply, looking Michael dead in the eyes as he spoke. ”Unless of course someone declares war on me. Then I win that war or die trying. Like I said before, this is to be a home. You don't start wars on your own land. Any thing like that will be away from here. I'm to be a friend to this town. If you all let me.” Explaining in the calmest manner he could muster, Urjasz folded his arms and remained leaned against the car. There was a slight scrapping noise as the blades in his arms met but otherwise there was no sign. Looking around to see who was watching or nearby, he was content with the fact that they were not standing out like sore thumbs. He was known security and Michael was known police. It would not be strange for the two to be seen talking in the road. Not like Urjasz and Everleigh. She was around fourteen and he was well past her age, even in human terms. Their relationship was that of a father and daughter. There was nothing sinister to it yet he could never shake the judging looks of people when they were out and about. With time that would pass and with the expansion of the family, it would all make sense. Not to mention if he found out anyone was a paedophile, he would take great pleasure in publicly dismembering them.
Michael once more caught him off guard and he was unsure whether it was a statement to be answered or simply the man just speaking his own thoughts aloud. Regardless, Urjasz opted for the answering route. ”I do not intend to bring her into this town if I can help it. What I said before about not starting a war on my own land? I meant it. That woman craves nothing more than power and land. I intend to stay on her good side and with that, give her no reason to come here. You don't have to worry about me telling her that you are here. Especially with that helpful insight. She was a former boss to me and now a trading partner. At least you know now rather than later I guess. Tell me, as I seek to avoid war, where can I find a founding family member? I suspect they know I'm here already but it would be best if I let them known what is going on too. Wouldn't want them to get the wrong idea now would we? Standard rules of operation apply here. I die or go missing and it gets investigated. They find me dead, missing or disappear themselves, then you find war on your doorstep. You know her well, tell me, would Ileana take a loss of power in a town lightly?”

Michael smiled. He was impressed that much was obvious. This guy really knew his stuff. And he seemed to know his sister very well. To a 'T' actually. Everything he said about her was true. He was now relaxed as he leaned against his own car with the guy. He could tell the guy was very sincere. And that there was nothing to worry about. He could relate to not wanting a war himself. This town had seen enough blood shed to last a century. And Mihail clearly didn't wanna be sucked into that. He couldn't let the people of Harper Valley go through that again. They had enough. Of course that didn't excuse how some humans handled life in a very bad way. Like druggie's and murderers. Michael used to kill murderers for food way bak then. Just because it was easier to hide out and the towns people wouldn't be any brighter. They would just go on. Thinking that God had something to do with the killing. Still Michael thought this guy was being honest. He could just tell. ”No threat to you. No threat to this town” That was something that Hail always liked to hear. But he was the police here. So he had to just make sure that this guy swore on his oath he means no threat.
And then there was the word, if, it always had a devious way of making its way into a conversation. So the man would declare war if war was declared on himself? That was a very strong statement. But then again Michael seemed to think the same way. When he thought about it, he would do just that. He almost lost it once. And that was the night he was turned. He almost destroyed lives. But he chose the easy way out. Especially after seeing Layla die right in front of him. He wished he had a picture of her. But the only way she existed was in his head. But he still remembered how she looked. He dreamed about her all the time. And then the mention of his sister brought him back to reality...And to answer his question, Hail had to agree. And nod at that. "She's relentless like that. Just how she is.." He still remembered how she acted when he and Sav and Vas all met unexpectedly in her club. That was fun. Still Michael was happy here. He had a home of his own and a best friend with him. What more could he ask for?
Someone to have his back if he couldn't get out of a sticky situation? That's exactly what he needed. He needed someone with brains and muscle. He had just re-met his brother Sav a while ago. And so he was still on the edgy side of trust. "Urjasz is that it? I hate to admit it but I like you. And I hope you enjoy your time here. As for the founding families they are scattered all over the place. I've ran into a few. But I know some of them do work at the court house...It's best if you stay away from their children for now that is..." He pointed out the court house not far from where they were. Michael actually liked talking to Urjasz by now. He was more open now that he knew the werewolf a bit more now. Maybe in the future they could become friends...
