She likes flowy dresses, skirts, peep-toe heels, and a pair of nice wedges from time to time. She likes to portray herself as really girly, because there’s nothing girly about turning into a bear every time some jerk pisses her off. The one thing she hates about this is that she doesn’t turn into something more delicate. So, she attempts to portray herself as girly as possible to perpetuate the illusion. Or maybe she does it to convince herself that she can be feminine and soft. PERSONALITY: Selene is a spitfire, but you couldn’t tell it by the way that she dresses. She’s the furthest thing from prim and proper, although she dresses like something straight out of the ‘40s. She likes to surprise people, because most people tend to underestimate her just by how she looks and dresses. She likes to remain a mystery; she doesn’t trust most people and it shows in the way she interacts with others. She believes in the age-old adage of being seen and not heard. She feels that she’s able to take in more things going on around her if she just sits back and observes. That’s her thing: observing her surroundings. She has a lot going on inside her head, but she only lets people she trusts see that side of her. She’s extremely outgoing (she has to be for her job, of course), but she allows people to only see the superficial side of her. Meaning no one at any given time will see the sweet, sensitive person deep down inside. Not that she’s superficial, but the things she allows people to see are very much superficial (e.g. favorite colors, favorite drink of choice, favorite pastime, etc). Of course, she’s not doing herself any favors because she’s not allowing people who really want to know her a chance to see the real her. But she feels as if it’s the best defense mechanism, bar none. She’s very intelligent, but most people think she’s just another girly girl who has nothing going on upstairs. She has run into tons of guys who think this way, and this has made her become very defensive. Because of this line of thinking, she’s constantly trying to prove people wrong. She has a deep seated need to be right all of the time, even when she’s not. She doesn’t take criticism well, and will probably give you a list of reasons as to why you’re wrong. Being that both of her parents were werebears, they instilled in all of their children the tools needed to prepare for the change. She was always frightened of what would happen when the change actually took place; instead of embracing her heritage, she shunned it as much as a young child could. Instead of being excited at the prospect of being this beautiful creature, she was downright afraid of it. Unlike Selene, her twin sister embraced the change and was excited for it to happen. Of course, her sister was more excited about most things than she. Her other siblings simply decided to go with the flow; they didn’t welcome it, but they didn’t shun it either. It was something that just was. She didn’t want to be different, but she had no choice in that manner. Neither of her parents did, but they were born this way. When she and her sister were babies, her parents packed up the whole family to move to Raleigh. For no reason at all, they just packed up and moved to North Carolina. Selene thinks it’s because her parents wanted something different; they had wanted to move away from Louisiana for years and now they had finally gotten the opportunity. Since neither one of them belonged to any of the packs in town, there was nothing left in Louisiana but family. Her parents wanted to set up their children for better opportunities; Louisiana’s economy was going down the toilet and they needed to move away for better schools and better wages. Or at least, that’s the story her parents told them. The real story was that they were afraid of people finding them out. Because of what they are, they don’t age like other people and eventually people would figure it out. Her parents accepted their fates pretty quickly or that’s what they would like Selene and her siblings to believe. Although most werebears don’t travel in packs, Selene’s parents were introduced with the intent to produce offspring. With their species dying off, their families wanted to have a fighting shot what with all of the other species embroiled in turmoil and tension with each other. That was also one of the main things her parents instilled in her: tread lightly, because no one knows where the battle lines are being drawn. The werewolves and the vampires would be too busy fighting each other to notice any of the other faction of supernaturals. Her parents also taught Selene and her siblings that they didn’t need to stick their nose where it doesn’t belong. So, she followed their advice and tries not to get involved with either of the species. It didn’t take much to convince her as she hated the looming threat of War hanging over her head. She doesn’t hate werewolves or vampires as a result of this, but she is wary of them. Disliking small towns, Selene had always dreamed of moving to New York City. Ever since she was a little girl, she craved the hustle and bustle of the City. Since the town she lived in had virtually no supernatural activity, she wasn’t exactly prepared for the inundation of supernatural beings. She’d always assumed that the stories her parents told her were tall tales and fables. You know something to keep their children in line and well behaved. Of course, that wasn’t true. Not by a long shot. After graduating from high school, she packed up all of her stuff and moved to New York. Of course, things don’t always go as planned. Instead of doing it all on her own, she had to ask her parents for help. They obliged her, but they warned her how different New York was from North Carolina. She didn’t take heed to their warnings, and she rightly paid for it. One cold night after a rather taxing night at work, she encountered a vampire. She accidentally took the wrong shortcut through the wrong neighborhood and was violently accosted. She had never seen anything aside from other werebears up close before. She didn’t know much about vampires, but she knew that once they caught you in their spell that you were pretty much a goner. Except, the vampire wasn’t counting on her being what she was. After the glamour took hold of her, the vampire bit her. Once the taste of her blood fully hit the vampire’s tongue, she was able to fight him off in his confused daze. She ran off and never looked back. To this day, the identity of that vampire remains unknown. While she’s working, she pays attention to her customers to see if any of them match the description but to no avail. Ever since then, she’s been known to steer clear of vampires. She has this tiniest bit of fear that the vampire who attacked her may come back and finish the job. |
