She smiled at the hulking bodyguard standing at the entrance of the club before walking past him. Seeing as though she worked there, she and the bodyguard were familiar with each other. They weren’t friends per say, but they were co-workers. Selene didn’t see any reason to develop any friendships with the people she worked with. This job was just that: a job. It wasn’t anything that she planned on doing for the rest of her life. She was certain of that, but she was immortal. So, she could work there for the rest of her life if she wanted to. She didn't like thinking that far ahead so she didn't dwell on it too much.
That’s something she’d always thought about when she had some time to herself: what was going to happen to her after a certain number of years went by. Sure, she could change it up every few years like her parents did. Yet, that didn’t seem to be the best way to go about things. That wasn't happiness to her; it wouldn't even satisfy her for a little while. She wanted to put roots down, and she could see herself living in the city forever. She wasn’t hugely fond of the city, but she appreciated all of its amenities. There were amenities in North Carolina, but things were better here. She hated the small town life; the constant whispers and rumors that circulated around the neighborhood. In the big city, she didn’t have to worry about that because people minded their own business. She liked that; she liked being able to hold on to her privacy and secret for as long as she could.
Maybe that’s what her parents should have done: moved to a bigger city. No one was going to pay close attention to the family that never got older. There was way too much going on to focus on one family out of the thousands of other families. But she understood the dilemma her parents faced; going from Louisiana to North Carolina wasn’t a big difference. However, going to New York from North Carolina was. The weather was vastly different and the cost of living was outrageous. That was one thing she could say about this city; the cost of living and taxes were ridiculous. She understood why there was so much to do: people were literally paying an arm and a leg to enjoy it.
She walked towards the employee area before opening her locker; she placed her backpack in the locker before grabbing her phone and slipping it into her pocket. She walked back out before walking behind the bar. Tonight was packed as usual. She wasn’t surprised to see so many people; it was always filled to the brim. She bent down to grab a shot glass before filling it with vodka; she knocked it back before slamming it down the bar. She cringed slightly before shaking her head. She’d done this since forever so she should be used to the burn.
When things got slow, she’d usually engaged in a little game with herself. She would try to figure out which species everyone was. She was usually wrong, but it was fun to do it anyway. She was almost close to an answer for the first creature when someone took a seat in the bar stool right in front of her. “Hey! What’s your poison?” She questioned expectantly with an eyebrow raise.

Going out to a club or a bar was something Liu hardly ever did. It wasn't her scene. Being nearly six thousand years old, much of the modern themes weren't her scene. She loved the modern age, but it was just a hard adjustment trying to understand why this age thought the way they did and acted the way they did, and yet here she was. Her heels clicked on the sidewalk as she was escorted by two of her friends from work to the front of the line where the bouncer was standing with his arms crossed. All three of the girls were beautiful, that was for sure. Liu was the shortest of the two, both of the other ladies being of model height standing almost five foot seven, while Liu was at a petite five foot two. That did mean she wasn't absolutely gorgeous. Tonight, she wore a sleek black dress that clung to her small frame, ending half-way down her thighs. Her feet were cased in open-toed black pumps with a four inch heel, making her appear taller than she was. Liu's waist length midnight hair was in large waves hanging around her bare shoulders against her porcelain skin. Can we go in? Please?! the tall blond on Liu's right begged, the woman's vivid green eyes pleading. The natural red-head with near flawless skin on her left chimed in. Come on... You have three ladies from the top fashion company in New York City with the top designer standing here as well... Do us a favor. Please? she said, poking her lower lip out. Liu laughed, throwing her head back. Alright, ladies. Go on in. he said, and Liu smiled up at him as she walked past, feeling his eyes on her as she lead the way into the club. The sound of the ridiculously loud music caused Liu to purse her lips and wince. It was hard on her sensitive ears, but she quickly adjusted, recovering quickly so her friends didn't notice anything strange. Liu we're going dancing! Come on! the blond shouted, taking hold of Liu's hand. The white gold diamond ring on her middle finger sparkled in the light, distracting the blond for a moment. It amused Liu how much they loved things that glittered. I'm going to the bar to get a drink. You girls go, have fun. Liu said, slipping free from the woman and heading in the direction of the bar. Sliding onto the stool, she was automatically greeted by the bartender. Hey! What's your poison? Liu smiled at the woman, pulled in by how friendly she was. I think I'll go with a jager bomb for now! she replied, smiling. That's when the woman's scent circled around Liu, and her brows raised. A Werebear? Liu hadn't came across a Werebear since Rome where she met Leon, the man that she thought had taken Dimitri's place in her heart. That had been almost two thousand years ago. Liu's ocean eyes never left the woman's face as she tried to gauge how old she was and how powerful she might be. Liu was fascinated by other creatures, never causing any of them to have an issue with her. She was the neutral party and protected them all the same. It wasn't that she feared what this woman was, she wanted to know more and to make sure she was well... okay. The Werebear gene as the oldest type of Were-creature, though the Original is supposedly only a thousand years older than Liu herself. It was also a very harsh gene, the rage of a bear even more harsh with the enhanced abilities and senses; including emotions. Some people couldn't handle it very well. She remembered Leon being only two-hundred when they met and he even had troubles controlling himself. Liu had been put in positions with him that she had to defend herself and subdue him so he didn't hurt her, or anyone else. That thought caused her to flash back to her memory of Dimitri, and her heart skipped a beat at the picture of his face that appeared within her mind. God, she missed him. Liu mentally shook it off. She couldn't let it keep wearing on her. If it was meant to be, he would come back into her life, or she his. She just hoped that it wasn't too late for her to tell him how she felt. Her eyes focused back on the woman in front of her, taking in her features. She had to be in somewhat decent control over the bear to work in a place like this. Liu was sure she had some encounters with drunk customers, and it didn't take much to set off the change. It concerned the Werecat a bit, not only for others safety, but for the safety of the girl. |

when the devil wants to dance with you , YOU BETTER SAY NEVER because a dance with the devil might last you forever - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sometimes she wondered why she even took this job. She could admit to herself that she admired the many supernatural creatures slinking around the nightclub. She could never be that comfortable with herself to allow anyone to look on with interest and curiosity. That was one of her biggest fears aside from the most obvious one: she didn’t want to become this sideshow attraction. She knew she was being ridiculous, but she knew there weren’t many like her in this city, or in any of the surrounding cities. If so, she would have caught their scents by now. She was a little lonely, and the idea that she was the only Werebear in town made her heart clench. She didn’t want to crawl back home with her tail tucked between her legs, but she needed to make some connections and soon.
She knew that things were started to speed up when people entered every 3 minutes. That meant that her inner musings would have to be put on hold if she wanted to keep up with the growing number of customers. She was tensed, but ready. She slightly raised her guard as she started to feel that tell tell sign of trepidation. She smelled blood in the air; it’s almost as if she could feel the adrenaline rising in the creatures crowded together in the club.
She was brought back to her post when she noticed the beautiful woman sit right in front of her. She raised her eyebrows expectantly as she waited to see what she would order. Selene was horrible at predicting what kind of drink someone would order. Sometimes, she’d get these tall, slinky women strutting around the club before coming to her and ordering something strong like straight tequila. She’d watch in mild horror as they would throw them back one by one. She was a lot stronger than she looked, but she could never drink straight tequila shots back to back. She was a little daintier than that. She had her eyes on the sweet drinks; the one that would make her giggle a little every time she consumed them. Amaretto sours, apple martinis, etc. Anything that was sweet, she’d drink it. She stayed away from anything that would hinder her from doing her job. She would have one drink with the customers, and that’s was only if the Boss’s goons weren’t anywhere in sight.
“I think I'll go with a jager bomb for now!” She smiled at the woman before turning around and making the drink. “Nice choice. Cheers!” Selene exclaimed lightheartedly before settling the drink down between them. She almost felt the change in the air when she saw the woman’s facial expression. She saw the slight movement of the woman’s nose. Selene wasn’t privy to the woman’s own background, but she was certain that her own smell gave her away. She held her breath slightly, waiting for the woman to ask her about it. She wasn’t sure what she would say, but she was already mentally scrambling for a way to vaguely answer the question.
She groaned lowly as the other woman simply studied her. She felt nervous, but she knew there wasn’t anything she could do about it now. Selene had to work on her poker face; she was fine in all other aspects of her life but this one little thing always made her feel a sense of doubt. She just decided to throw all caution to the wind in that split second, “What do you want to know?” Selene questioned with a small sigh. She thought it was best to get it out of the way; she didn’t feel threatened, but she could see the curiosity written all over the woman’s face.
“It wouldn’t be the first time someone sniffed me out. Working here makes it hard to hide what you are.” She quietly explained as she wiped the bar top in a circular motion with a small towel. Selene being as young as she was and as sheltered as she was meant that she wasn’t aware of certain things. She knew things that concerned her and her species, but she should have been educated about everything else. Alas, her parents didn’t think it was for the best.
