Thorne flashed his ID to the bouncer at the the door The Silver Bird, before proceeding to walk inside. This was not the young mage's first time in The Silver Bird, so he was not surprised by how empty it was, even at this hour. Well, it was empty compared to the bars he typically frequented in New York City when he was there. Unfortunately he was not in New York City and had been delegated to stay in and keep an eye on Harper Valley and the estate there. Yes, it would be easy enough for him to get back to the city should he choose, but a small part of him decided to at least give the bar another try.Brushing his hair away from his eyes, he realized that this was a poor decision. While Thorne didn't mind the quiet, it gave him time to think and to read, when he went out, that was not something he looked for in a bar. No, he needed and craved excitement, people to fawn over him and try to get him to dance with them. Alas, here Thorne would be forced to sit at the bar and wait until more people arrived. It wasn't as if he knew anyone very well, if at all, in Harper Valley. He tended to stay away from the small town. It was his mother who loved to come and visit, though she seldom did anymore. Glancing around the room, he pushed his dark hair away from his eyes and quickly crossed the room to the bar. Thorne caught the bartender's attention and called him over, sitting down on one of the hard stools. "I'll have a Screwdriver," he said to him. "Make that extra strong," Thorne added after a particularly loud guest drowned out all the other noise with his laughter. Why had he decided to come here again? Outfit here

"Goodnight guys." the blonde nurse said to her co-workers before grabbing her coat and walked out of the ER doors. Tonight would be the first night Sara had off in two weeks and she couldn't wait to get her weekend started. As exhausted as she was she didn't really want to sit at home. Her excitement from finally being off work without having to return hours later, as well as the six cups of coffee she drank throughout the day, kept her wide awake and energized. Any plan to sit at home and sleep was quickly thrown out the door the moment she felt the chilly air hit her face.
She sighed, "Freedom!".
As Sara walked down the sidewalk further into town she thought of different ideas for what to do. Though Sara has been here for a few months already she had yet to fully explore the area, something that would shock anyone who knew her, but she was simply too busy at the hospital to do so. It bugged the hell out of the curious Magi but now that she had the whole weekend to herself she planned to make a day of walking around town. Tonight however was not the right time, mainly because Sara was aware of the things that went 'bump in the night' and decided it was best to remain indoors. So the Silver Bird it was.
It only took Sara five minutes to reach the restaurant/bar. Sara was quickly becoming a regular there (on her days off of course) and already made friends with most of the staff so when she went in she didn't hesitate to say hi to any staff that passed her. The cheerful, but exhausted, Magi headed past the restaurant tables and to the bar where she took a stool a few seats down from a unfamiliar face. She studied his face in an attempt to see if she remembered him but nothing came to mind.
After a few seconds she moved her attention to the bartender who was making a drink. When he saw Sara he smiled and greeted her as if they were old friends but quickly went back to making drinks. While the bartender was busy Sara patiently waited to be served on but her energy level was making it difficult. Finally when the bartender returned Sara ordered a Bloody Mary and in just a minute she was sipping on her drink.
As she drank the blonde looked around and she realized the Bird wasn't as busy tonight, in fact there was hardly anyone here. She thought maybe the town was holding a special event but then she would know about it. The town was small enough everyone knew each other's business and any event the town held everyone was invited. Still Sara was content with how her first night was going so far so she couldn't complain.
Sara was in deep thought when she heard her phone go off in her pocket. Because of the quiet surrounding her in what is usually a packed restaurant/bar she didn't even realize that the straw she was using to stir her drink was still moving in a clockwise circle when she removed her hand from the straw and answered her phone. To any normal person seeing a object move on their own would cause chaos but luckily for Sara no human was paying attention.

Upon receiving his drink, Thorne took a long, grateful sip, not bothering with the tiny straw; it would only hinder the speed with which he finished the beverage. This town truly was so quiet. True, Salem wasn't necessarily the most bustling location, but at least he had easy access to New York City and Boston through his parents and the doorways they had set up in his home. Here there were few in the house. Thorne would need more to be made, and quickly if he were to survive in this place.
Out of the corner of his eyes, the young Magi saw a woman, about his age, staring at him as if trying to discern his identity. Inwardly he smirked, it wasn't uncommon that he had women checking him out, particularly when he went out. Tonight though, he wasn't sure if he felt at all like dealing with it. Turning his head slightly to look at her, he arched an eyebrow, as if inciting her to say something. Not waiting for an answer of any kind, he turned his head and went back to nursing his drink.
A shrill ringing ripped him from his musings and he looked over in disdain at the woman to his right. Wonderful, he thought. Just what he needed, someone blathering on loudly next to him. Except this wasn't just some woman apparently. His trained eyes took note of the straw in her drink that continued to spin without losing speed. She wasn't human then, most likely a Mage; Thorne doubted any other type of creature could make the straw spin like that. Yet here they were, in public, flaunting her abilities. He wondered if she was even aware of what she was doing. It was possible she had yet to master her abilities. Without moving, he let the flow of magic release, catching the straw and stopping it from moving.
"You should be more careful with your spells," he said softly. "Lest you get caught,"

Sara had just hung up when she heard a voice that seemed like was speaking directly to her. She looked over at the source and then back at her straw just as it stopped moving. Her cheeks turned pink against her tanned skin and she buried her face in her hand for a few seconds in embarrassment. "I am so sorry.....I didn't know." she said once she removed her hand from her tired blue eyes and smiled at the stranger, her cheeks still their pinkish color.
Luckily for her another Magi saw it rather than a human. The only way she knew he was a Magi like herself was his calm nature about what he just witnessed and the fact that he acknowledge her about it in a way that made it seem as if he saw this sort of thing every day. Mentally Sara took a deep sign of relief but the thought of the possibility of a human seeing it still made her a bit nervous which only added to her embarrassment even more.
"This really doesn't happen very much, I promise. I'm just so exhausted I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes." she looked around the room before looking back to him and leaned in a tad. "You don't think anyone saw it, do you?" she said in a hush tone as to not alert anyone else. She desperately hoped he was the only one that saw it and if not then Sara would possibly have to move. Any supernatural in Harper Valley is not welcome nowadays, even Magi so if Sara was to remain in the town she grew to love she needed to be more careful.

Thorne rolled his eyes slightly. How could she not know that she was casting a spell? It was possible she had only just come into her powers, in which case it was more likely. Most magi didn't develop their abilities until they were eighteen, unless they were born to two powerful mages. Looking over towards he, he studied the woman again. She didn't seem to be terribly older than him, perhaps this was the case then.
"Don't apologize to me, I'm not the one that would have gotten caught," he replied softly, taking another sip of his drink and leaning back in his seat, swiveling to look over at her. "The woman over there is to absorbed in a phone call," he nodded to each person as he listed off the people in the bar, "He is too drunk, they are too busy laughing at some joke and the bartender is making a drink." Thorne always made certain he knew what was going on with who when he was in a small place like this. If he needed to use magic discretely, he had to know when other's were distracted.
