HISTORY: Kaia Rion was born Sorina Khorkov. She was the daughter of a wealthy baron who earned his title for military excellence. At an early age Sorina was spoiled, always given the finest they could afford but unlike most she never took it for granted. As she grew up she could often be found in the small village nearest to their property, playing with the other children and even offering a helping hand to many of the stalls and shops around town. Sorina's father disapproved of his daughter fraternizing with the lower class so Sorina's was often kept locked up in the family manor, forcing the young girl to defy her father by sneaking out and resulting in severe punishment. By the time she had reached her early teens Sorina's was regularly sneaking out of the house and off the property and learned how to keep it from her father.
Her father had always been a strict and powerful man, being a decorated military man with several metals, and became more so as Sorina reached her mid teens. So when Sorina began to fall for someone of lower class her father deemed unworthy the consequences were of course severe. The last time she ever saw him she was gathering some fish from his father, a local fisherman, for a cook in the manor. They had planned to meet that night by the water but he never showed up. When she returned home her father told her he saw the fisherman and his son pack up their things and sailed off, leaving Sorina heartbroken. Little did she know the two's disappearance was actually by their father's men's hands. Both were brutally killed and their ship sunk.
A year later, when Sorina was 17, she was the proper age for marriage. Like most women in those days Sorina had no choice in who she married or any say in the matter period. Though Kaia was unhappy with the arranged marriage she got along with her new husband, to an extent, and was given the title of Countess. Sorina remained with him until the age of 20 after the death of her first husband. Sorina remained alone until the age of 23 when she met her second husband, a duke from France, and was forced to move from her homeland. Soon after the two married however he quickly began to show his true nature. Sorina's second husband was vicious, demanding, and extremely power-hungry. It wasn't long until Sorina became less of a woman and more of a personal slave. The only difference between her and the actual slaves were the clothing and the title. To the public she was thought of highly but behind the castle walls it was a different story.
After years of torture Sorina had enough but was too afraid to retaliate. She would never be the sweet Sorina everyone knew. The new Sorina was a bit colder, more distant, and increasingly vain and greedy. Sorina feared aging and especially losing any bit of power she still had left, most of her anger directed to the servants. Years of torture and heartache left the once beautiful woman looking years older than she really was. It was then Sorina sought out different methods of gaining back and maintaining her beauty. None worked until she found a witch who agreed to help the desperate woman. For two years Sorina was able to maintain her appearance but her hatred for her husband still grew increasingly.
Shortly after her 30th birthday a man was brought in for trial, and sentenced to death. His punishment was fitting for his crimes but with the help of a magical friend she was informed of his true identity. The night before his execution Sorina visited him and struck a deal. In exchange for his freedom he would have to turn her. He agreed and after the man was guaranteed his freedom the turning process began. The story was the doomed prisoner freaked and escaped, taking the 'innocent Duchess' with him. Two days after their disappearance Sorina was found by her husband's men and returned home as a innocent victim, but only in their eyes. That night whilst her husband lay fast asleep the newly turned vampire turned on her husband and from him took her first taste of blood, and oh was it sweet. After she was done she made it look like an attack and blamed the man who turned her, but he was long gone by now.
To 'honor', as many were told, her husbands life and death Sorina threw a lavish party, inviting only the elite. Among the group was a handsome man Sorina later came to know as Vasile. The two clicked right away and were practically conjoined to the hip for the next 40 years. During their time together however Europe was being plagued with a supernatural war and shortly before it ended the majority of the vampires were being driven out and forced onto the unknown continent. While the two planned to escape together Sorina found herself alone. It had seemed her beloved had left for the new continent without her, leaving her heartbroken. Little did she know he thought the same and left in search of her.
For the next five centuries Sorina explored more of Europe before she was given the chance to travel to the New World. There she spent the majority of her time searching for Vasile but had no suck luck. During her search Sorina experienced many things, including becoming addicted to Magi blood. It wasn't until the mid to late 1700's did she finally kick the habit. Since then she had changed her names many times, finally settling on Kaia. In the early 1800's 'Kaia's' luck came back to her as she reunited with Vasile, who now went by Rhafiel. Shortly after the two found each other they married. For the next two hundred years the two traveled together, making a name for themselves. Now Sorina works as a appraiser for a art auction house and despite having to work extra hard to accommodate her schedule around her inability to be out in the daylight, loves her job and is one of the leading appraisers in the company.
