Eli Dahveed, son of very wealthy family, was a mysterious man that fell in love with Kader Kinali when she was visiting his home city of Tel Aviv, Israel while her father was a Turkish ambassador. Both were shapeshifters. Against their parents’ wishes, they saw each other frequently and soon got married and gave birth to Altan, who they named after Kader’s favorite grandfather. Two years after that came Isabel who was named for a young American friend of theirs that was killed by some sick moron. After that, Kader left for America to tell Isabel’s parents of her passing. She left her children in Israel with their father. When she didn’t come back and announced she wanted to move there to help the grieving parents, he took the kids and joined her only to try and change her mind.
Things changed, however, when Kader actually became a US citizen. Eli wouldn’t have it and they fought constantly after that. By the time Isabel was almost five they had divorced. Their father wasn’t really in their lives after that. All Isa had was her mother and her brother. As Kader worked so much and was home less and less, it was Altan who helped her with her shapeshifting abilities. When Isa was ten things changed. Eli returned to get custody of the kids. By the time, all he was to Isa was a birthday card and Hanukah gift here and there. Kader wouldn’t have any of it, and so she made a deal with him. The outcome was Davina and the promise for all four to return to Israel. It never happened. The months she carried Altan and Isabel’s little sister, they hid. A year after Davina was born, Kader left the kids with a neighbor, Maria Espina, and jumped off the roof of a high rise.
It wasn’t easy living with Maria. She didn’t know English very well and they didn’t know Spanish. Being just a year old, Davina picked it up rather easily. Isa was the one who had the most trouble with it, but she did learn it. It just took a little while. By then, Maria was being harassed by friends of Eli’s. Altan only fifteen took the girls and ran. Living in the slums of New York, he started street racing for cash. When Isa was fifteen, she convinced Altan to teach her all about the racing after he missed her birthday and came home all bruised up. Reluctantly, he taught her everything he knew. By the time she was sixteen, she was beating. It was all in fun, however. He wouldn’t let her race for real though.
