Stroking his fingers across the bonnet of the car he could not be more happy. Urjasz loved his cars and he had to leave most of his back home when he left. There were being stored for him of course by Zakhar but it was still pretty crap having to walk around everywhere here. Before him stood quite the slimey car salesman yet that mattered little. Urjasz was going to buy the car; there was no doubt about that. It was the temptation to tear apart the man's face and use his comb over as a tickler. The car was what was holding him back though. Brand new, white colour and lots of fun little gadgets inside. Behold the beautiful BMW M3 Saloon. Power, speed and modern. Urjasz had one back home and had it kitted out with all the latest gadgets. Lucky for him he still had contacts back home in Russia and could get it all sent over. He even had the knowledge of how to fit it all together. Nothing was worse than an out of date immortal.
Taking the keys from the dealer, he wished them a good day and climbed into the car. As the engine rumbled to life, Urjasz slowly clutched the steering wheel and took in the sound of the engine. A home comfort no less. Putting the car into gear, he pushed his foot down and the wheels spun before setting off into the street at speed. Overtaking the first car he came across, he increased the speed and set off for the town outskirts. He couldn't test the car completely in the small town roads without endangering the locals and as much as he loved the idea of racing around the town he knew he wouldn't exactly remain liked. Nearing the edge of town he slowed down to stop for some red lights and as he waited watched a woman walking alone down the road. As he did a van skidded to a halt near her and masked men jumped out grabbing the woman.
Driving at the van, Urjasz followed the van out of town and raced right up behind it. Hitting the horn, he flashed for them to pull over and tail gated the van. On a clear stretch he moved up along side it and motioned to the driver to pull over. Instead of doing that the van driver rammed the side of his car. ”This is brand new you flaming muppet!” Urjasz yelled back at the van. Accelerating forward, he swerved in front of the van and tried to cut it off. The van driver slammed his brakes on, spinning the van and flipping onto its side. Crashing through a barrier on a corner, the van smashed through a tree and burst into flames. Skipped to a halt, Urjasz bolted out of the cat and ran for the van.
Ripping off the side door of the van, he reached in and pulled the woman out. She was out cold and bloodied. Carrying her to the car, he was belting her up when he felt a sharp stabbing pain in the side Snarling he spun around and punched the attacker. Pulling a knife from his side he slashed at the man and darted forward. Tackling the man over the broken barrier, they rolled a few feet and hit the side of the van. Grabbing the man by the face, he pushed the blade up into throat and into his skull. Dropping the man into the van Urjasz checked the van out to see if the other two were alive. The back seat passenger was fairly.....everywhere and the driver was groaning with pain. Noticing the spillage of fuel, Urjasz stepped back and headed back for the car. As the van burst into flames with the screams of the driver Urjasz slid back into his car. Good thing he had warranty on the car. Bad luck to break the car the first day.
Leaving the screams and flames behind him he reached the hospital in very little time. Parking up, he carried the girl into the entrance and asked for a doctor in a very dramatic, film like way. As nurses and doctors came flooding forward to take the girl from him, Urjasz stepped back and headed for the desk. Explaining how he found her and how to contact him he finally went to leave yet decided to stay. He could smell the hospital food and unlike the locals, he had quite the craving for it. Heading for the cafeteria he looked at the menu and ended up with an odd variety of things. Taking a seat he waved to a passing doctor in a “I'm still here if you need me” type way and tucked into his burger. Soon after police were in the hospital and he could hear the rumours of a van explosion on the outskirts of town. Oh well. A normal human death. Nothing bad for him.

"When the girl told her about the stranger who saved her from the kidnappers and the accident Sara knew she had to find this man, not only for a statement but to thank the heroic soul as well." It was another busy day at Valley Hospital, so busy Sara didn't even have time to sit down with her coffee that morning before starting her day. No today Sara was running on fumes and would do so for a straight ten hours. By the time things had finally calmed down some the exhausted Magi snuck into one of the doctor's bed's, without him in it of course, and took a nap only for her to be woken back up by another nurse with a call of a young girl who was in an accident. Being one of the youngest nurses in Valley Hospital most nurses went to Sara when cases of young children or teenagers came into the hospital. She had a way with the youth that would have made you think she was still a teenager herself, and in some ways she was. But when it came to her job Sara took it very seriously and knew that someone's life was no joking matter.
After the girl was in stable condition Sara proceeded to comfort the girl as well as get her information down. She did her routine checks, checking for her heartbeat, her blood pressure, and then finally asking any questions about what had happened. When the girl told her about the stranger who saved her from the kidnappers and the accident Sara knew she had to find this man, not only for a statement but to thank the heroic soul as well. As Sara walked out the room she had decided to seek out the man but was stopped when her stomach let out a loud growl. "I'm going for lunch." she told one of the nurses and received a nod. Sara wasn't a fan of hospital food but right now it was all she had and with how her stomach felt she was in no position to be picky.
Before she headed for the food court downstairs she grabbed two books from her bag in her locker, one being a normal medical book while the other a much older looking book that held spells in two languages, Latin and the English translation. As Sara ate she liked to read as it kept her mind busy and with her books in hand she headed towards the cafeteria. Once there she stepped in line, grabbing a tray and began to pull things off the display's, a ham and cheese sandwich, a salad, and a bag of chips caught her fancy. Her tray was almost complete when she spotted the brownies and dashed over to them like a fat kid in the ice cream shop. Now satisfied she went to the cashier to pay for her food, opening up her medical book as she waited for the cashier to get the register working before giving her the change back. With her nose still deep in her book she began to head over to an empty table. Half way there her attention was pulled away from the book as it fell to the floor along with her tray. One of the doctor's had bumped into her but didn't stay long enough to help her. Sara knew it was her fault for not paying attention but she found his quickened departure rude. |

Just as the smell had enticed him into the cafeteria, the taste of the burger kept him there. As odd as it sounded he really liked hospital food, having grown used to it from various encounters and the hours spent waiting to see if friends were ok. There was a familiarity to the food and that was something he had not expected to find in this town. It was very American here and he was used to Russian food. Already he had noticed the vast increase of portion sizes here and he was never hungry in this country. How this country had so many homeless he had no idea. This gave him an idea and placing his burger onto his plate he wiped his fingers clean before pulling out a small notebook. Jotting down the large number of homeless in the country, especially in the cities, he wrote a reminder to check out the homeless areas in New York when he next went down to fix his car. A possible reliable source of food and in some ways practice of his skills, the local police and immortals would not think someone out of town was responsible. Especially if he did it often enough.
Satisfied with his idea he slotted the notebook back within his coat and resumed his burger. When he was down he wolfed down the chips (french fries?) that came with it and wiping his mouth clean he slid the tray across from his as a clear sign that he was done. It was likely that he would have to put the tray away himself however he always did this on the off chance a kindly staff member is helpful. And seeing as he was sticking around for a bit, it wasn't like he was just leaving it to them on purpose. Flicking out his phone he was about check his messages when he heard the sound of a tray crashing to the ground and quick exchanges. Looking up, he saw a woman dropped down picking up her items as a doctor powered off into the distance without so much as an apology. Rising from his seat, he slid the phone into his pocket and silently moved up to the lady. Crouching by her side, he picked up her book and handed it to her. ”Even the kindest people can be so rude some times” he began with his thick Eastern European accent slipping through.
Clumping the spilt food he looked at it for a moment before placing it on her tray. Helping her to her feet, he picked up a clean tray from the side and began to put fresh food on the new tray, believing the old tray to be wasted now. ”A person of a medical profession must never go hungry. Hunger can cause.....mistakes. Cloud the judgement. This can not happen.” Paying for the new tray, he passed the old one to the cafeteria staff and motioned for the nurse to join him at his table. Taking a seat, he glanced at his phone to see if he had any messages and looked back up to her. ”Forgive me if I'm interrupting your break but I would not say no to some company. Waiting in these places never seems to end. There is no sense of time. At least not when you don't know when it ends. Tell me. How is the girl?” He asked politely yet he did so with reason. He could smell the girl's scent on her and he did not wish to draw attention to this fact. A casual question. Knowing how the people in this town reacted to immortals he was slowly learning to adapt. His own pride had slowed that process. Yet there was another scent to this woman....

"Manners and common decency was a big deal where she came from but New York was different and any sign of kindness shown to her is defiantly unexpected." As the doctor rushed out of the cafeteria as if he was being called to an emergency Sara was left grumbling to herself as she started to pick up the ham and cheese sandwich she had been looking forward to off the floor. Though it was only hospital food, of which most days made Sara think dog food would have been better, it was the only thing the overworked nurse had to fill her stomach and now the little bit of cash she had on her was wasted. Any chance of going out to grab a bite now was out of the question which only irritated the nurse even more.
She hadn't noticed she wasn't alone until she felt the presence of something kneeling beside her to help. She stopped what she was doing to look at the stranger just as he reached for her book and handed it to her. ”Even the kindest people can be so rude some times” At first she froze, not sure what he would do or say after seeing such an odd book in a hospital but when he went on as if it was normal she relaxed a little. With a smile she took the book from him and watched as he began to clean up the floor for her. "Thanks." As she watched him fill the tray with the now wasted food and grabbed her a new one she started to question herself. Though the help was very much appreciated she wasn't used to she wondered why he was helping her at all. He didn't know her nor did she him. Manners and common decency was a big deal where she came from but New York was different and any sign of kindness shown to her is defiantly unexpected.
”A person of a medical profession must never go hungry. Hunger can cause.....mistakes. Cloud the judgement. This can not happen.” Sara agreed, knowing full well as a nurse but that didn't change the fact that she did indeed let herself get this hungry and she could only blame herself. As he started to pay for her food she almost stopped him but quickly remembered she had no money on her. If she was going to eat she would have to suck up her pride and let the stranger pay for her food, as awkward as it was. Once the transaction was complete she followed him to his table mainly because he still had her tray and sat down across from him. ”Forgive me if I'm interrupting your break but I would not say no to some company. Waiting in these places never seems to end. There is no sense of time. At least not when you don't know when it ends. Tell me. How is the girl?” Sara's eyes perked up from his question. "So you're the man that saved her? I was hoping to run into you. She's in stable condition, a few broken bones and a concussion but she'll be alright. I wanted to thank you for doing what you did and brought her in. Not a lot of people these days will do something so heroic. Who knows what could have happened to that poor girl if you had not been there." she grabbed her fork and took a bite from her plate. |

Urjasz had expected some kind of call asking if the explosion on the edge of the town was to do with him as he'd only been in the town a few weeks by this point. Whilst most of the organisation had a grip on how the world actually worked, even the vampire companies could not avoid the lawyer types who try to con every penny out of the world. Leeches. Just like their bosses. Yet something he had to endure. Why some vampires would even fear someone suing them was beyond him; he would simply just tear the other person apart. Perhaps as he had thought the crash seemed very human and they didn't think it was him. A sign of him getting better at his job or an insult? He could not tell however he would not let it anger him. He was currently the good guy and despite being the rare occasion, something that he would not change if he could help it, even Urjasz knew that saving a human always works wonders for meeting the town's leaders. Especially if he didn't set the whole thing up. Nature and luck were on his side tonight.
”Hurt her. Raped her. Killed her. Maybe even sold her. They didn't stop to tell me why they wanted her. Even when I put the last one down. Men trying to get someone for a good reason tend to plea for reason before you kill them. Try to persuade you to be on the right side. These men did no such thing. In fact one of them even tried stabbing me.” Urjasz twisted in his seat to show the patch of blood at his side and the torn clothing around it. ”You know, for a building full of doctors you'd think someone would have noticed the giant stab wound. Oh well. If they can't see your latin book they won't see that. Or the fact that you're a magi.” Playing it cool as he realized what she was, he pretended it was no big surprise to him yet in this town it really was. He had been told the supernaturals all hid here. If only he knew just how “in plain sight” they all really were!
”Tell me, if I'm to live here, will I often have to chase down lunatics grabbing young girls off the street or is this one of those “just passing through town” type moments? Because if they're here I'll just go to them and finish them. I don't do any of this “hiding in the shadows” crap and yes that applies to being an immortal as well. Lord knows I've tried to provoke a response of some kind from these town founder bunch. For a group so feared in this town they sure are hard to find. Tell me nurse, if I get ambushed in the night and I need medical help, would this be a safe place to get that?” Urjasz really wasn't one for small chat and he may as well get something out of the situation other than a damaged car. In many ways he hoped that she said they were some biker gang that hangs out in a bar on the outskirts of town. That way he would have some direction to vent his anger. Nothing beat taking a bat to the skulls of bikers. They loved a good fight and always put up a stronger fight. Always died though.

"Part of her was scared to say anything while the other was curious as to what more he had to say. Either way this man caught her curiosity, and she couldn't even tell if that was good or bad." "...Even when I put the last one down. Men trying to get someone for a good reason tend to plea for reason before you kill them. Try to persuade you to be on the right side. These men did no such thing. In fact one of them even tried stabbing me."
Sara's body became tense when the man spoke. He had this aura to him that put her off and she couldn't put her finger on what it was about him. Then again his mentioning of killing, even if it were to those that deserved it, she could easily see why she felt uncomfortable around him and though they weren't alone it still felt like there weren't enough people around them to ease the discomfort. She knew he wouldn't try anything in a hospital. If he wanted to he would have already done so by now but that didn't make her feel any better. She listened to his words carefully and quietly. Part of her was scared to say anything while the other was curious as to what more he had to say. Either way this man caught her curiosity, and she couldn't even tell if that was good or bad. Being a nurse however she couldn't stop herself from looking down at his wound more than once as he spoke until he mentioned something that Sara simply couldn't ignore.
”You know, for a building full of doctors you'd think someone would have noticed the giant stab wound. Oh well. If they can't see your Latin book they won't see that. Or the fact that you're a magi.” Sara's wandering eyes traveled back up to his face, wide with shock and a small noise escaped her throat. Sara knew that there were other supernaturals in town besides her but she didn't know who they were and neither did they of her. How this man knew she was a magi after only a couple minutes of meeting astounded her as well as spiked her already high curiosity. It also created a bit of panic within the petite magi for she knew if the wrong people knew about what she was she'd be in a whole world of trouble. Unfortunately for Sara she couldn't tell what exactly this man was without using magic but she was determined to find out one way or another.
As he spoke she took in all he had to say and waited until he was finished to respond, though it took her a minute to wrap her head around the fact he knew she was a magi and now stated to be an immortal himself. What kind of immortal still remained a mystery and she desperately needed to figure that out before giving up too much information. "For a group so feared in this town they sure are hard to find. Tell me nurse, if I get ambushed in the night and I need medical help, would this be a safe place to get that?” As Sara's mouth opened to speak she found herself having some trouble and started off in a nervous stutter. "Y-yeah. Yes, of course. Though when they realize your body doesn't work like a normal human however they'll start to talk and word gets around fast around here. So short visits are probably best, if you absolutely have to at least. Otherwise I'm sure that is one good way to get the Founders attention....though I don't see why you'd want it anyways." she paused for a moment and tilted her head slightly to the side while giving him a curious look. "How did you know what I am? Are you a...." she looked around and leaned closer. "vampire? she whispered, desperately hoping he'd say no. |

Urjasz noted the slow absence of a response from her before she was able to bring forward the courage to ask her own question. It was a fair trade. She had answered his questions to the best of her ability with a hint of her own advice put into the mix too. A goodwill gesture he assumed and one he would take with a smile. Despite hiding in the shadows in this town Urjasz had found the immortals so far to be fairly polite and friendly when he met them, even if they were suspicious of him or even wary of him ruining their hidden peace. A gentle chuckle flowed from him with ease as she leaned forward making a guess at his species however not loud enough to draw attention from those around them. ”My dear I should be insulted. A vampire? The species that many would label my enemy. No I am not one of them. I am a wolf. A predator of vampires and Magi alike. But you need not fear me. You are kind to me, have future purpose to me and you give me hope that one day this town can have all the species live side by side. Just like in Russia.”
Leaning forward also he held his hand out to shake hers. ”My name is Urjasz Volkova. I am of Polish descent and I am 179 years old. I also work for a Vampire family based in Moscow. Before you fear that claim, the Russian families hold no allegiance to the American families. In Russia Wolf, Magi, Vampire and all the others live side by side. Without the humans knowing of course. In this country they fight each other. This is the new world apparently. One that the old world will not change into.” Hopefully shaking her hand, he ate a few chips (fries) before looking at his phone once more. ”It's why I want to meet these founding families” he began, drawing his eyes back up to meet hers. ”I have travelled across this country wiping out the bad species in various towns for several years now. This is my final town to complete. There are three types of immortal. Those who want to rule everyone, those who want to live side by side and those who want to hide in the shadows. Which are you?”
Chomping on some more chips he smiled and looked about. The hospital seemed fairly normal although he began to wonder how many other immortals hid in the shadows. Or even if any founding family members were here. Even the cause of the earlier kidnapping was skimming back and forth across his mind. Just some crappy criminals or was there a more sinister motive behind it all? He knew too little of this place to make such a judgement and no doubt the police would put out some kind of statement. With a bit of luck they wouldn't just accuse him and try arrest him. It was already a bit of luck that he could sit here in the hospital. Urjasz didn't need to stay yet he felt compelled. With his drive ruined he may as well stick around in case something was to kick off. Unlikely as it was, he liked to feel like some kind of use despite this being a very human matter now. How he longed for the species to co-exist. He had power in the immortal world and the humans didn't even know it.

"Like many others she assumed it was the same here, if not worse on account for its age and old stories of species discrimination, prosecution, and annihilation." Sara mentally let out a sigh of relief after hearing he wasn't a vampire, though a wolf wasn't any better it still made her at ease more so than if her suspicions had been right. She has had many encounters with vampires, none good so far, but only with a few wolves and although she was still cautious she still felt safer around a furry beast than a demon after her blood. When he extended his hand she looked down at it with hesitance on accepting it. The entire encounter was strange but he has shown nothing but kindness so far so instead of jumping to conclusions she accepted the hand shake, but only for a brief moment.
Sara listened quietly as he, in her eyes basically, told his life story to her in just a few simple words but did so with a hint of curiosity. She could remember her grandmother telling her at a young age about the species over in Europe and how supernatural in America, with the exception of the American wolves, originated from there. Other than that Sara had no idea about the situation there between the humans and supernatural. Like many others she assumed it was the same here, if not worse on account for its age and old stories of species discrimination, prosecution, and annihilation. However as new information started to flood in she quickly realized how bad America really was compared to the Old World, how much the Old World has changed, and how ignorant she was to think any differently.
She listened carefully however but with his last comment it seemed to strike a chord. ”I have travelled across this country wiping out the bad species in various towns for several years now. This is my final town to complete. There are three types of immortal. Those who want to rule everyone, those who want to live side by side and those who want to hide in the shadows. Which are you?” Sara looked at him silently with a puzzled look on her face. The question, though seemingly harmless enough, surprised her. She had never really thought about it before but it seemed she had no choice but to consider it now. She thought about it for another few seconds before leaning back until her back pressed against the bars of the chair. ”Well of course I want everyone to live in peace, there’s no doubt about it. But I’m a realist. There is too much history and too much hatred to stop it all completely. Sure you’ll go through town after town until your satisfied the problem has been eradicated, but in the end it’s just like Hercules’s second labor. Cut off the head of one hydra and two more pop up. Cut out all of the bad in a town and eventually it all comes back to bite you in the ass twice over. And you won’t even get the worst of it, they will. Ever heard of ‘The Lost Colony’ in North Carolina? They tried to get rid of all the bad supes and you see how they turned out. So yes…I do want Vampires, Magi, Werewolves and many others to live in peace but if it takes hiding in the shadows for a whole species to survive then I choose hiding. And if you know your history you’d know why a Magi would say answer number three.”

The Young Don't Know The Pain Of The Old
Their handshake was brief yet it helped him feel as if he wasn't threatening her. She was wise to be wary and like she said he knew of the history between the species. Often he found that shifters and magi would flee at a reveal of his species yet here she remained. Granted he had been civil so far and she was surrounded by humans in a town where the species ruled. It irked him slightly that so many of their species did not even realise they ruled the town. When he found the founding families he would see to it that they no longer run the town. After previous conversations he looked forward to putting a blade to their skin. Her answer was longer than he had expected and it was nice to meet someone who really did take in what he had said. So often did he recite his life story and purpose in this country. And all they ever focussed on was the “oh he kills people” part. It was like they didn't even acknowledge their own species history and behaviour. Even the immortals had yet to have a world war; the humans had two under their belts. This town really frustrated him. No where had he ever been before where humans were feared so much. It felt almost shameful to hide from the humans. They had always been the weakest of the species to him. The only reason the vampires hadn't tried to control them was because they were food to them and it never went well when they tried. War meant killing and killing meant dead food. Not their taste.
”I agree” he began, leaving his food for a moment to invest in the conversation at hand. When it came to serious conversations he had to leave his food. Something in him just felt rude and he could not see himself coming across as serious with half a burger in his mouth. ”This country has seen no end of bloodshed between the species. This new world became a battleground for control and power. Whilst it was torn apart here, it went together well in the old world. If anything, the more violent people came here and left the old world the smarter, more civil immortals. Though that does not mean that all old world immortals are civil and smarter, it would account for much of our species' history. As you say, the bad can not be wiped out. This is a fact. There is no point even trying. But you can tame and control the bad. I don't just kill the bad. I clear a path. I cleanse and the family I work for fills the gap. By no means do they consider themselves the good guys. However they are a business empire too. War is bad for business when you are in the war yourself. Whilst the war before we arrived funded us, we have no need to be part of it. I must admit though I do not know the story of North Carolina, could you expand upon it some more?”
Urjasz began to pick at his food now that he had spoken but still showing signs of interest in what she was saying. He understood why she would hide in the shadows. She was one person. He was part of an empire. Of the two he was always going to be more confident. It is amazing what a person can achieve when they have the backing of an empire. Yet it was strange to have the backing of a vampire empire. Urjasz often swore that it was the fact that he worked for vampires that got people's attention long enough that he could begin a conversation with them and hold their attention long enough for his point to come across. This was a strange land though. Back home he could say the family name and many would think twice about fighting him. Here you get no such fear. Yet say what he was and there was real fear. A European werewolf. It was like a curse word to many. Their history of insanity and violence was well known. Sometimes he felt like a trophy soldier to the vampires and he often wondered if they would have accepted him if he was one of the American werewolves. All he knew was that when he shifted into his wolf form, it was a bad idea to stay around. Urjasz had always been a wolf and knew nothing of being human. Yet even now he could swear that there was another soul inside him that fought for control when he shifted. And all that soul wanted was the blood and flesh of his enemies. Twenty-nine American towns could account for that.

”Well, I only remember what I was taught in school and the little bit of outside information from Grams. But from what I remember it was a colony in what’s now North Carolina first settled by the British in 1585. Everyone thought everything was fine and dandy, there were even some supernaturals among them openly I believe. The first time around it was just a common spiff between them and the natives and when they got the chance they left back for England. The ship that took back the first settlers left behind some people to make sure their claim was kept. Well, when they went back to get them they found nothing but a few human bones. The rest were all gone and there were no traces of any of them. Now some people say it was the natives seeking revenge but in the supernatural world we know better. But of course these men were stubborn so they stayed there and recolonized the area.” she took a short break in her story so she could take a sip from her drink and quickly returned. ”They remained there but because of the previous guy in charge the natives weren’t so happy with them being there. Now I understand how people may think they were involved, and maybe they were, but for some reason my Grams believes that it wasn’t a native that killed that colonist but a supe. She doesn’t know which one but when Grams is certain about something she’s usually right. And just like all humans in the course of our history they started to freak out so they sent their head guy back to England for help. So he goes back yada yada, but because of some war he can’t return for three years. When he got there, again, the place was deserted. No bodies, no blood, not even a few bones. All that was left were dismantled houses and two carvings in a pair of tree’s that showed signs of the natives being there but it wasn’t them. As revengeful as they are it wasn’t them. We don’t know who exactly but it wasn’t something human. They set those natives up.” she paused for a moment to see if he was still following her and smiled. ”I’m sorry if that was a bunch of useless information. I was never really good at paying attention in class.” she laughed before pausing to give him a chance to speak.
After her speech she began to think about the story of the lost colony and started to think his mission to ‘wipe out the bad’ didn’t seem all too different from the first settlers reaction to the natives. Sara wondered what his definition of ‘bad’ was and now was determined to find that out. ”Can I ask you a question? You don’t have to answer but, what do you plan to do when…or if…you meet one of these Council members? I don’t suppose a simple talk is the only thing in mind…?” she trailed off in hopes she was right and he only wished to talk with the council instead of planning something a bit more drastic. Not all of them are against the supernatural population in the town but again they are not afraid either.
